ASA Houston Chapter Scholarship Description:

The American Subcontractors Association – Houston Chapter (ASA Houston) awards scholarships for traditional and vocational scholars. Applications to the program are available to any employee of an ASA Houston member company or any dependent of an employee that is an ASA Houston member company (a dependent is defined as someone whom the employee is financially or legally responsible; ASA Houston members are defined as “Subcontractors” or “Associates” in good standing; GC Partners do not qualify). The only exception will be given to high school seniors currently enrolled in a Career and Technical Education (CTE) program with a focus on construction-related fields of study who are not directly connected to an ASA Houston member company.

This scholarship program is specifically for individuals who are

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in a construction-related discipline (Construction, Construction Engineering, or similar) from an accredited university.
  • Pursuing construction-related certifications from a trade school.
  • Currently employed in the construction industry and are looking to achieve additional certifications to advance their careers.

Application Process:

For consideration, applicants must submit the following:

  • Completed application
  • Short 500-word essay
  • One letter of recommendation
  • Copy of most recent academic transcript
  • Proof of college/technical school enrollment

Scholarship Application Review:

ASA Houston’s Past Presidents Council will make up the scholarship application review committee each year. The committee will award scholarships annually based on the following criteria:

  • Academic performance (min 2.5 GPA)
  • Anticipated field of study (higher emphasis will be given to applicants pursuing a construction-related degree or vocational certification).

Awarding Scholarships:

Individual award amounts will be at the discretion of the review committee and will vary depending on criteria above and the ASA Houston scholarship account allocation designated for that year. However, selected student(s) will not be awarded less than $500. At the committee’s discretion, awards may be distributed through two separate transactions, prior to the start of Fall and Spring Semesters. All awards will be distributed directly to the student. Awards may be used for tuition, books, supplies, tools, software, uniforms, safety equipment, transportation, etc.
